  • Literacy Connections is a private, not-for-profit, 501(c) (3) organization committed to helping adults and families become functionally literate.
  • The organization works with the lowest literacy level adults in Dutchess, Columbia, Greene and Orange Counties.
  • Our core program is to help adults to learn to read and write, and function independently.
  • We recruit and train volunteers to provide one-to-one and small group tutoring that is student-centered.
  • The agency is administered by a small staff and a large volunteer base. We welcome volunteers to become tutors, to read to children, to help in the office, to assist with community events, or holiday gift wrapping at local bookstores, and a variety of other projects all designed to help people to read, write, and reach their potential.

  • Pets Alive relies on the help of volunteers to care for the hundreds of animals within their facility.
  • You can make a huge difference in the lives of these animals by volunteering even a few hours.
  • They have volunteers that handle all different aspects of their business, from direct care of the animals to support staff working from the back end for events and data entry.
  • Volunteers are invited to apply to work in our various animal care areas (cats, dogs and farm animals), event planning and fundraising, property and maintenance, and other tasks such as doing laundry, vehicle maintenance, running errands, transportation to and from veterinary appointments, cleaning and organizing our storage areas and other odd jobs. Skilled volunteers are always needed such as licensed electricians, plumbers, carpenters and experienced groomers, as well.
